The human figure in repose was the constant source
of Dobson’s inspiration, and from the 1920s he concentrated on the female nude. His work reflects a range of influences, most obviously the work of the older French sculptor, Aristide Maillol, and the art of India and the Orient. This marble figure dates from the same period as a journey to Sri Lanka.
