Inscription: Illustrated and inscribed by the artist in pen and black ink: upper centre, titled: "AVANT et après"; centre, surrounded by decorative elements, signed with large intials "PG" and in an adjacent cartouche "auguin"; below that: "aux Marquises"; lower centre again in a cartouche, dated: "1903" and flanked on the left by "Pour Pleurer / Pour Suffrir / Pour Mourir / In Secula" and on the right by "Pour Rire / Pour Vivre / Pour Jouir / Seculorum".
