This design was for a window shutter at 38 Brunswick Square, in Bloomsbury. Several members of the so-called ‘Bloomsbury Group’ lived in the house at various times, including the writer Virginia Woolf and the economist John Maynard Keynes. The design was executed for rooms occupied by Woolf’s brother, Adrian Stephen, and Grant himself. The naked figure dancing wildly expresses something of the unconventional and liberated ethos of the Bloomsbury Group.
