Grant often summarises a motif’s essential traits in a few swiftly drawn marks. It has been suggested that this plate features a cat’s eyes, whiskers and paws. Painted plates are among the Omega Workshops’ most striking products. The technique of painting over the translucent glaze did cause practical concerns, however, as some customers complained that it tended to wash off.
