Label Text

This saturated blue glaze echoes the intense glazes of Chinese ceramics from the Song dynasty that Fry favoured. Technically, this tureen shows Fry’s progress as a potter thanks to the guidance he received at the ceramics workshop of Carter & Co in Dorset. It is well thrown, with the handles cut out of slabs of clay. The heavy-duty tureen contrasts with the delicacy of the knob, perhaps in the form of a bison.
