From 1915, Fry used the specialised pottery facilities and skilled workshop of Carter & Co., based in Dorset. There, Fry studied technique in all aspects of pottery production with varying degrees of assistance. By making moulds from his hand-thrown pots, Fry created a hybrid method of production that captured the expressive qualities of the artist’s touch with the efficiency of industry. This mould-made bowl features an individualised knob of a nude figure.
