This instrument was executed for Fry by Arnold Dolmetsch, pioneer of the early instrument and music revival. Fry’s decorations for the exterior consist of abstract geometrical forms which give the effect of Cubist collages. By contrast, he decorated the underside of the lid in a figurative style with a painting of a nude in a landscape.
