Like Matisse and Picasso, Maillol created a large body of prints in parallel to his sculptural work that echoed the linear clarity found in his drawings. In this etching, he exploits the immediacy and freedom of the process, demonstrating his confident draughtsmanship through his economical use of line. With great sensitivity, he captures the movement of the crouching figure as she twists, emphasising the weight of her lower body by using a heavier line.
