This sunlit veiw across the Piazza San Marco looks toward the church of San Giminiano, which, until it was destroyed by Napoleon, stood directly opposite the Basilica San Marco. Running along the left is the shaded facade of the Procuratie Nuove, housing the chief magistrates of the Venentian Republic. The view is framed by a corner arch of the Basilica to the left, and on the right the Torre dell'Orologio, a celebrated late 15th-century clock tower.
