Label Text

Just beyond the waterfront facade of the Doge's Palace lies the Ponte della Paglia (Bridge of Straw), above which, half in shadow, is the prison. In the foreground figures walk and talk on the Molo, the near quayside; by the bridge is a knife-grinder's stall. Further stallholders can be seen on the Riva degli Schiavone, the quay on the far side of the bridge.
