Unknown; on the verso is an inscription in the handwriting of William Clarke, who was Paper Conservator in the 1980s. He must have treated the drawing and then never returned it, so it stayed in the Paper Conservation Studio until it was rediscovered in January 2009.

Watermark: Watermarks: Verso, upper left, cut off by edge: “B CRAYON ANCNE[former two letters superscript]MANU[…]”. Mount (removed, now kept separately): Verso, blindstamped with a roulette along left edge and cut off at edges: “[…]CY÷AUSSEDAT ET CIE A ANNECY÷AUSSEDAT[…]".
Inscription: Recto: upper left corner, graphite: “400”; lower right, graphite: “-0,08 1/9 / Ernest, Le Barman / et / Janette, un paysanne / page 120”. Verso: lower left corner, black ink, cut off by handling edges : “[…]/184”; lower centre edge, William Clarke’s transcription of inscription on recto (probably from 1980s): "Ernest, le Barman et Janette, en[sic] paysanne page 120". Mount (removed, now kept in portfolio in P&D): lower right, graphite, William Clarke’s transcription again: “Ernest, le Barman / et / Jonette, en[sic] paysanne / page 120”; lower left corner, graphite: “L”; lower right corner, graphite: “15-”.
