Notes
The potteries of Manises, the most prolific centre for lustreware in the district of Valencia, remained important throughout the sixteenth century and beyond, although the quality was in obvious decline from the seventeenth century. Similar decorative motifs have been found on fragments of wares made in Muel (Zaragoza) and Reus (Tarragona), both of which had strong links with Valencian lustreware potteries. The presence of the Aragon arms on this dish places it comfortably within the kingdom of Aragon, at any of these three centres.

Acquired by Thomas Gambier Parry between 1863 and 1875
