Label Text

The shape of this small bowl stems from Fry’s interest in China, as its form echoes Song dynasty teabowls. Song ceramics also inspired Fry’s monochrome black, blue and turquoise glazes, shown nearby. In a letter to his daughter discussing this black bowl, Fry delights in his technical progress made through his apprenticeship at Carter & Co.
