Label Text

Gerhard Richter experimented with watercolour extensively during the 1980s. In this work, he explored layering different colours and brushstrokes to produce a complex visual effect. He introduced oil paint in certain areas to create a contrast between solid colour and the transparency of watercolour. The result is a mysterious abstract landscape. The interplay of the layers is not always harmonious, and the work has a deliberately unsettling quality.
