This sheet forms part of a gift of nine etchings by Lucian Freud presented by one of the late artist’s closest friends, the painter Frank Auerbach. Freud gave the works to Auerbach over several years during the 1980s and early 1990s; the period when the etchings were produced. The group is distinguished by the exceptionally high quality of impressions and by its comprehensiveness. The nine sheets cover Freud’s principal subjects of the period, ranging from head studies to male and female nudes and a rare still life.
