Claudine Stella was the niece of the artist Jacques Stella. When he died, Claudine became head of his printmaking workshop and was granted the exclusive right to publish his work in print. Her position as a woman in charge of a major workshop in this period was highly unusual. Here she has used a combination of etching and engraving to reproduce a design by her uncle. It depicts a group of peasants playing a game in which the kneeling man must guess who hits his hand.
