Inscription: B. Picart invenit et fecit 1725. //
Inscription: THE TRIUMPH OF PAINTING. / The City of Rome, seated on her Throne, raises up PAINTING, who is situated by three Females; representing Peace, Plenty, / and Politness, distinguished by their Attributes. / Fame publishes her Triumph and Immortality crowns her. Ignorance, Envy, Superstition, War &c. attack her on every / Side. In the front, appears Time who devours and destroys Pictures, Designs, Busts and Manuscripts upon Painting. Mnemosiné / snatches some of them from him, the Names of which appear in Greek or Latin, as Philostratus, Pliny, &c. / On the other Side, two little Genii are employed, the one in holding a Picture of one of those great Masters, and the other / in explaining it to him. In the back Ground appear a few of those Edifices, which have preserv'd us some remains of the performan- / -ces of antient Painters and Sculptors. / Published 12th.
