The half-closed eye is inidicative of sly / mischeief... (...) / "Low Life" was painted in 1829, exhibited at the British Institution in 1831, and / presented to the nation by the late R. Vernon, Esq., in 1847. It was lithographed by / R. J. Lane, A.R.A., in 1834, and has since been engraved twice, by C. C. Hollyer / and H. S. Beckwith. //
