Label: MORPETH CASTLE. / Of this baronial Castle the principal remains are the old Gate-way / Tower, and part of the outward wall which enclosed the area and / interior buildings. It is situated upon a lofty eminence, about a quarter / of a mile south from the town of Morpeth; and seems from the ap- / pearance of its boundary walls, and the vestiges of the out-works, to / have been, when entire, a fortress of a considerable strength... //
Inscription: To the Right Hon.ble The Earl of Carlisle, Viscount Howard of Morpeth, &c, &c, &c. / This View of MORPETH CASTLE is inscribed / By His Lordship's most obedient Servants, Thomas Hearne, & William Byrne. / London: Published as the Act directs, 16 Aug 1784: by T.Hearne and W.Byrne. //
