Within the image, around the armour on the left, printed in black ink: “M I C IACET JOHANNES DUF / de malbabat + baldavi qui ope et opera virtute ac frugalitate / alto consilio et intrepido corde / paternos limites ampliabit ob incmor. mentem invim.fidm.preclm.obt.1404.”; on the base under the effigy on the left, printed in black ink: “HIC IACIT IOHANES DVF DEMALDAVAT + BLADAVI OBIIT Z IVLII 1404.”.
Below the image, lower margin, printed in black ink: “Cordiner pinx / P. Mazell Sculpt. / MONUMENT of the MASOLEUM of the EARL of FIFE / Published as the Act directs Feby 1 1795, by Peter Mazell Engraver No. 32, Bridge Street, Covent Garden.”.
Above the image, upper left margin, later Witt inscription, handwritten in graphite: “925/32/34”.
