Inscription: inscription : printed : centre label & recto : later Witt inscription : 132 WILLIAM BERNARD COOKE / Four disbound engravings and one engraving / and etching from A New Picture of the Isle of / Wight 1808 / i St. John's, Landscaped c. 1797 for Edward / Simeon / ii Lodge, or Cottage Entrance to St. John's. The / Lodges were designed by Repton / iii The Marina, near Ryde. On the perimeter of / Simeon's estate, and built around the time / Repton was working there, this was 'the / weekly resort of the inhabitants of Ryde, / whose promenade on Sunday evening through / these walks, enlivened by a band of music in / this building, affords an exhilarating scene of / innocent recreation' / iv East Cowes Castle. By John Nash 1798 / onwards for himself. Possibly landscaped by / Repton. It is illustrated by him in Peacock's / Polite Repository) / v Norris Castle. Built in 1798 by James Wyatt, / for Lord Henry Seymour, it was landscaped by / Repton before 1805 / Engraving & Etching / Repton praised the scenery of the Isle of Wight, / its pretty rose-adorned cottages and attractive / villages, in his Red Book for Sheringham, 1812 / Lent by the Witt Library Print Collection, / Courtauld Institute of Art //
