The Prodromus(published in 1735) is an early engraved catalogue of highlights from Vienna’s imperial Habsburg collection formed by Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria (1614-62). While the arrangement of paintings in this print is fictive, it was common practice to display artworks symmetrically on densely hung picture walls. At the bottom left a copy after Michelangelo’s famous Dream is shown, a master drawing in The Courtauld Gallery.
