Inscription: Recto: lower centre, black ink: "9 ADAM ELSHEIMER // Natif de Francfort en l'an 1574 fitz d'un Tayleur, faisoit son apren // tisage a Francfort Chez Philippe Oudenbach; gran deseignateur, et tres bon // painctre neanmoins surpassoit son maistre de beaucoup, estoit d'un Hu // meur melancolique, se treuent ordinairement dans les Eglises, ou en quel // que Viele Ruine, exersent de la facon, son estude, on trouve peu de ses // oeuvres mais extremement labourees, avecque une grande force et d'un divin // entendement, Il a peau dessaingue, mais tenant du grand maistre, Touchant sa vie // at este, de peu de duree, mourut poure, laissent per le monde une Renomee, qui durera // a jamais W.
