The restless horse, barking dog and the cavalier brandishing a weapon and apparently about to mount the horse, give this image, like so many in Vari Capricci, an air of disquiet, or even of foreboding. This may lead the viewer to speculate about what the figure is about to do - unanswerable questions about which we can only fantasise, as the title of the series suggests.
