This work features a woman seated at a table in the Café Royal in London. In the mirror behind her head, the half-length reflection of a standing man can just be observed. However, the real subject of the image is undoubtedly her exotic and elaborate hat adorned with long feathers, which gives the wearer the appearance of a Barnacle goose in flight. The title may also jokingly refer to the woman’s personality, insinuating that she is a person particularly difficult to shake off.
