Throughout his career Cézanne maintained a fascination for his own image, producing around sixty portraits of himself in various media. This lithograph, one of three commissioned by his dealer Ambroise Vollard, was most probably intended as a plate for Vollard’s third Album des Peintres Graveurs, but the series was abandoned. In this, his final print, Cézanne portrays himself as an artist looking at the viewer from behind an easel.

Executed for the third but unpublished "Album des Peintres-Graveurs". One hundred copies printed in black and in colours.
