This view focuses on the handsome Renaissance facade of the State library which runs along one side of the 'Piazzetta', the small square between the waterfront and the great square of Saint Mark's. On the far right is the Loggetta at the foot of the Campanile (bell tower); like the Library, the Loggetta was designed in the 16th century by Jacopo Sansovino. To the left is the column of S. Teodoro, a huge granite column supporting a statue of Saint Theodore, an early patron saint of Venice; below is a small puppet theatre, surrounded by spectators.
