This knee-hole writing table was in Samuel Courtauld’s drawing-room at Home House, Portman Square.
The designer of this writing table adopted the semi-circular form, more usually associated with commodes or chests of drawers. The inlay of exotic woods, employing motifs from classical antiquity newly popularised by recent exploration and archaeology, is typical of British neoclassical furniture.
