Inscription: Recto: upper right corner, brown ink: "3"; lower left and right, brown ink: "Scala di" and 'Romani" with a scale in between numbered "V" "X" and "XX"; lower centre, brown ink, signed by the artist? Abraded by the apparent removal of a strip of paper that once covered it: "Ego Josephf Vasconius fecit". Verso (backing sheet): upper left corner, graphite: "58"; upper right corner, graphite: "photographed - / no neg no. / Giuseppe Vasconio / (Hofer) / Filippo Vasconi (c 1687-1730) was a nephew of C Fontana / TB records a Giuseppe who was a painter, active in 1651 [or "1657"] //"; upper left, graphite: "S. Carlino, lantern."; lower left corner, graphite: "22"; lower right corner, graphite: "Blunt 58".
