Inscription: Recto, lower centre, brown ink, artist's hand: Alle volte gli Animali più storditi, con miracolo di Natura operano delle cose che / nella Loro irrationalità anno del raggionevole, ciò si è veduto evidentemente in un Asino / della Nobil Casa Sacchetti, la quale possiede un bellissimo sito che chimasi il Pignieto / a causa di tanti Pini, che vi si vedono dove il gran talento di Pietro da Cortona vi Archi / tettò un bellissimo Casino, dipinto anche dal suo eccellente Pennello, il quale per la ec / cellenza dell’Architettura potea chiamarsi tutto quello che poteva far l’arte di perfetto, pre / sentemente a causa dell’aria non buona è stato tutto abbandonato, con grandissimo dolore di / chi gusta et apprezza le belle cose. Nel tempo poi che era abbitato dai Signori della Casa vi ha / vevano un Asino, il quale havea tanto giudizio, che in Roma lo caricavano con ceste ben chiuse / e da se stesso se ne ritornava all’abbitatione che abbiam chiamato Pignieto de’Sacchetti / con ammiratione di tutti che questo osservavano, ora perché doppo tanti Anni di servitio al / povero Asino convenne morire, perciò quei Signori per gratitudine gli eressero un monumento / con un Urna antica dentro di ciò riposero, o finge che si riponesse il Corpo dell’Asino de / fonto e fù posto esso chiamamolo così Mausoleo che servisse di termine e Prospettiva alla / vista dell’abitatione nel fine di un Viale di Cipressi, Con il Disegnio del medesimo Pietro da Cortona. / Il sopradetto somaro si chiamava Grillo.
