Inscription: Recto: upper centre edge and right centre edge, graphite: only the ascenders of words now totally cut away are visible; lower left edge (within the drawing), black ink, signed with initials and circled: “GB”; lower centre margin, black ink: “Ayacucho. 6 x 5. / “The Routed Spaniards clambered up / the rugged sides of Condorkanki”; lower left edge, graphite, cut off: “MM[? same on D.1978.XX.48]”. Verso: a label adhered to the verso has the fields printed in red, filled in with grey ink (same on D.1978.XX.48): "Account Battles of 19th Cen No. 79189 / Name Ayacucho / Artist G. Browne / Date 25-1-95”; upper right corner of label, grey ink: “79189”; lower left corner, graphite: “P28” and written across the whole label in blue crayon: “NN”.

Stamp: Recto: upper right corner (underneath the framing lines but not the lines of the drawing), black ink: “WITT / LIBRARY”; lower right corner, purple ink, partially cut off by right edge: "HAMPSTEAD PUBLIC LIBRARIES / LOCAL COLLECTION. / H.J. CORNISH COLLECTION. / 1928.”.
