Parallel hatching describes the angular rock faces in the foreground of this landscape, whilst a windmill and castle dominate the horizon line. Once attributed to Pieter Bruegel the Elder, this delicate drawing is now thought to be the work of a known early forger of his work, Jacob Savery. Jacob’s numerous forgeries attest to the demand for Bruegel’s style amongst contemporary collectors.
