Provenance

Dr Kieslinger, Vienna (1891-1955), by 1931 (when published by Leporini); Dr Arthur Feldmann, Brno (1877-1941) (information supplied by Looted Art Commission); his sale, Gilhofer & Ranschburg (Lucerne), 28 June, 1934, lot 257; purchased there by Count Antoine Seilern (1901-1978) (2,200 Swiss francs); Princes Gate Bequest 1978

Dr Arthur Feldmann of Brno consigned 333 drawings to this 1934 sale, but only 87 lots were sold. The rest were returned to Brno, and were subsequently looted by the Nazis. As this drawing was purchased at the 1934 sale, it was not among those spoliated by the Nazis.
