Provenance

perhaps sale of the collection of M. de Wailly, Hôtel Drouot (Paris), 17-18 February 1853, no. 153 (as 'Etude d'un tableau de sainte Catherine. Sanguine') [this identification suggested in Rosenberg and Prat 1996; however, Martin Eidelberg in his 1985/86 Master Drawings review of the Washington/Paris/Berlin Watteau exhibition identified no. 153 in de Wailly's sale as a different drawing - no. 344 in Parker and Mathey's catalogue]; Victor Koch, Hampstead (1867-1959); purchased from him by Count Antoine Seilern (1901-1978), 1937; Princes Gate Bequest 1978
