On label (removed, now in object file), blue ink, Margert Whinney's hand: “This drawing by John Flaxman, which / came from the collection of Mr. Rupert Gunnis is / to be given to the Courtauld Institute at my / death. Margaret Whinney / 23 Dec. 1965”.
