In 1801 Girtin painted and exhibited a circular panorama of London, the Eidometropolis. Later that year he travelled to Paris to create its equivalent, but deteriorating health prevented him from completing it; he instead made etchings after the drawings. This drawing relates to the Paris panorama project, showing a part of the view from the Right Bank of the Seine. The pen and wash were probably added later over the initial pencil sketch.
