Label: Recto: upper left corner, typewritten in black ink on separate piece of paper glue down: "Earl of LOUDOUN.".

Inscription: Removed from back of mount and now in object file: "Allan Ramsay / Portrait of William, 8th Earl of Home (d. 1761). / The original picture is still in the possession of the family at the Hirsel, Coldstream. / Black chalk heightened with white, reproduced in Drummond's / "Histories of noble British Families" 1846 Vol II".
