Label Text

John Jellicoe (1859-1935) was one of the Royal Navy's most senior admirals during the First World War. Jellicoe was criticised in some quarters for his strategic judgment in the Battle of Jutland (1916). While in command of the Grand Fleet, Winston Churchill claimed that he was “the only man on either side who could lose the war in an afternoon”. This caricature may relate to the Omega Workshop’s pacifist activities during the First World War.
