This delicate and formal design has been traced and refined from an earlier sketch. This sheet is not a technical drawing, but rather an artist sketch representative of the preliminary creative stages. Drawings like this were later worked up before being sent for manufacture by professional rug-makers. Fry’s decision to design rugs at the Omega Workshops was bold, as none of his artists were familiar with the technical process of rug-making. In addition, many British rug manufacturers were closing around 1913-14.
