The pattern ‘Mechtilde’, named after Princess Mechtilde Lichnowsky, the wife of the German ambassador and supporter of the Omega Workshops, appears here in the smaller of the two sketches. It was one of six designs the Omega produced as printed linens. Later, the linen design was translated for use as a carpet. The reuse of designs across multiple media was encouraged at the Omega Workshops. ‘Mechtilde’ was among the most austere and geometric of the Omega’s patterns.
