This design is traced from another drawing, allowing the artist to modify and refine certain elements without losing the preliminary design. The deliberately uneven line of the left-hand border, which has been sketched out in pencil then painted in, is typical of the Omega Workshops. Fry encouraged his artists to exaggerate the irregularities of their drawings to ensure the artist’s touch was clearly retained on the final product, taking into account the shift in medium.
