Label Text

The simple motifs and bright primary colours shared by this rapidly executed sketch and a similar one in The Courtauld's collection (D.1958.PD.34) suggest that they are both initial ideas for the same object, possibly a doormat. The small size of a mat was well suited o this type of boldly simplified design; indeed, an early Omega Workshops catalogue noted that mats 'are peculiarly adapted to the style of our decoration'.
