The Omega Workshops were founded by painters of the Bloomsbury Group in London. They used Modernist design to react against the heaviness of Victorian interiors, and created domestic objects including rugs, pottery and trays. In contrast to the geometric forms in contemporary paintings by artists who pursued abstraction, here the rectilinear shapes function as a decorative surface design for a practical object.
