A brightly coloured and intricately patterned rug design occupies the same sheet as several seemingly unrelated sketches of faces and other motifs. The similarity between the rug's border pattern and what appears to be plaits of hair or ears of corn next to the faces, however, suggests some connection between the two drawings.
Frederick Etchells was only briefly a member of the Omega Workshops. In 1913, he and Wyndham Lewis left following a dispute with Roger Fry and went on to found the radical Rebel Art Centre.
