Watermark: Watermark: centre: bunch of grapes flanked by "V" and "C" in a lozenge (no match found in Heawood; per Peter Bower, made by an unidentified French papermaker).

Inscription: Verso (backing sheet): lower left edge, graphite: "n.H.38." [the "H" could be a monogram, a "TH" perhaps, though doesn't match L.2433 exactly]; lower right, graphite, Colnaghi number: "A 21390cx". Mount (removed, cut down, now in file): graphite, Colnaghi number and price: "21390cx / £21 / van der Meulen / 4652 //".

Collector's mark: none.
