Inscriptions

Watermark: Watermark: centre: per Peter Bower, indeterminate, possibly a version of the Italian Three Hills in ornamented lozenge, rather than wtihin the more usual circle (no match found in Heawood or Piccard).

Collector's mark: Verso (hidden under support): lower right edge, brown ink: Francesco Maria Nicolo Gabburri (L.2992b).

Inscription: Recto: within drawing, each figure is labelled in red chalk with letters or numbers, such as "D9" "T" "d" "u" "P" etc. Verso (hidden behind support, visible only via transmitted light): lower right edge, ink, Gabburri's hand: illegible even with strong torch due to thickness of support, but Novella Barbolani thinks it must read "Di Livio Meus da Paolo in S. Sebastiano di Venezia". Support (historic), Verso: upper centre, brown ink, inventory number in Gabburri's collection: "Di Livio Meus / N.o. 1370."; upper right corner, graphite, circled: "1"; right lower edge, graphite: "3"; lower left corner, graphite: "D. 198".
