Provenance

possibly Colnaghi (London); Witt Fund Purchase 1955 The inscription on the verso would seem to be a Colnaghi inv. no., but it is very low (A. 68), and would indicate that it passed through Colnaghi pre-1914. However the number abuts a bevelled corner, so it’s possible it could have been a longer number but was cut off. However see also D.1955.WF.4617, also with a very low "A" number that doesn't seem to have been shortened.
