Inscription: 188. Perina del Vaga- / Very like Tintoret - Some / grand drawing & Color but / the infant Moses is simply / wretched - / [line across page] / The Pictures by Rubens and Snyders / are the most striking for their color / and their mode of execution - which is / very broad - with a pencil full of / color - all over the Canvass the color / is very thick. Rubens produces the sweetest effects often by laying the / color on very thing. but this is only / when he employs very light color / and he often employs pure Vermillion for / the shadows. or rather shades - There is in his flesh tints a wonderful de / licate grey which gives great lustre / to the rosy and light warm tints - but / this is only found in the lights
Inscription: 573. A Grand Picture by / snyders. Very powerful but / no black in it - nor any blue / full of harmony. / [line across page] / 595 Such color as is in / the flesh of his Picture is / new unapporached / [line across page] / 300 - as near perfection as / one can imagine anything - / The shades in the flesh are ra- / ther too dark - but the drapery is / faultless / [line across page] / 611- / The womans face very fine / [line] / 694 - / Marvellous for rotundity -
