Inscription: This was a peculiar piece of Rock / owing to its being subject to the action / both of Sea and rain. The lower part / for about 12 or 18. inches was of a dark / and dull green. but bright in the sunny parts. / above this was a dark Grey inclining to / red - a red slate - also for abbout a [sic] / foot or lift/ 1/2. above this the grey became / lighter and warmer. untill at the upper- / most parts it was very pure and pale / and on this were patches of gold colored / lichen- brightest also at the top - all of these / colors were well separated in masses but / at their immediate junction they penetrate / each of the other color.
