Inscription: the stones to the right are of ever / varied natural shape mixed / with made Blocks - these last are / whiter than the sky which with the / whole of the distant Town is of / a very aerial grey- but warm and / having various distances of warm / grey fading into the sky- the lights on / this distance are generally of / a warm colour. Among the stones / of the foreground are the richest / ockres - figures washing - women / and men of all nations...[illegible] / very like the women of the lago / Maggiore - The richest and / brightest color is the sail of / the Boat on the left - which / was transparent -
